Freemotion quilting with gold, silver, and pearl metallic thread, commercial fabric appliqued onto hand-dyed cotton twill, bordered in hand dyed light cotton. Dharma trading co. mx dyes and a brother csi5000 machine.
My first attempt at thread drawings outside of a few samplers (8x11 pieces of fabric). I wanted to do something deeply personal for myself, and this was the result. I plan on getting this machine for my home and doing smaller versions of tapestries like these.
Working on Libertas dragon skulls and I had to pause to work out how Halcyoth’s face even WORKED. He’s the spikiest of all the dragons I have, and I got a few questions on how his jaw worked so… there it is!
There’s an outer layer of false “teeth” that are more spines than anything, and then his true teeth are behind those, and are usually hidden! The outer layer of “teeth” are indeed covered by a thin layer of hide, so Hal does have a good deal of trouble crunching into things, despite what they look like. He’s a pretty delicate eater and is pretty lucky he’s got dexterous hands or Tael would probably have to cut his meals up for him! He’s also got some wisdom teeth goin’ on ( a second set of molars on his top jaw) but they don’t effect much.
Another WIP of Papa! Not sure about the flowers yet— there’s caladula which represents sorrow and loss, and then Queen Anne’s Lace which represents sanctuary/protection. Also going to incorporate chains and hooks, so maybe when it’s all finished I’ll actually like it more :x There will be little “cameos” in the bottom— a hatchling, another wher named King, and in the center the x’d out face of his now deceased Handler.
Papa belongs to Mellody! Artwork is mine! Papa, and other awesome characters can be found on Libertas: Valediction!
